I’m Jon Friesen. I live in Canada, where I write code and start companies.
I’ve loved automating things for as long as I can remember, and wrote my first robot program when I was in the ninth grade in my first ever computer science class.
The only thing I loved more than computers as a kid was video games. When I was in highschool, I was the sole technician at a gaming cafe (think computer lab but with loud music, black lights, and Red Bull) where I fostered a welcoming culture positivity and fun (while remaining the top dog!) based around highly reliable networks and systems.
I spent the next few years completing a degree in computer info systems during which I joined a small software company as a test developer where I was mentored by some incredibly talented folks and developed my coding skills. Later that company was acquired indicating it was time for a personal change with a move to the big city (ok, Vancouver's not that big of a city, but it was for me)!
I recently left my role as a senior software engineer at DigitalOcean working on App Platform to join Qpoint.io as a founding engineer. My passion lies in platform services and I strive to make App Platform but the best solution for new developers to learn and small business to succeed.
Today, I'm a software developer and co-founder at Qpoint. We've designed a novel solution to take control of application egress traffic. It's super exciting and largely avoided problem because, traditionally, it's expensive, complex, and flaky to manage. We remove those barriers. Check us out at qpoint.io.
