I’m Jon Friesen. I live in Canada, where I build Cloud Apps.

I’ve loved automating things for as long as I can remember, and wrote my first robot program when I was in the ninth grade in my first ever computer science class.

The only thing I loved more than computers as a kid was video games. When I was in highschool, I was the sole technician at a gaming cafe (think computer lab but with loud music, black lights, and Red Bull) where I fostered a welcoming culture positivity and fun (while remaining the top dog!) based around highly reliable networks and systems.

I spent the next few years completing a degree in computer info systems during which I joined a small software company as a test developer where I was mentored by some incredibly talented folks and developed my coding skills. Later that company was acquired indicating it was time for a personal change with a move to the big city (ok, Vancouver's not that big of a city, but it was for me)!

I recently left my role as a senior software engineer at DigitalOcean working on App Platform to found Planetside Software. My passion lies in platform services and I strive to make App Platform but the best solution for new developers to learn and small business to succeed.

Today, I run Planetside Software, a software and cloud computing consultancy. I focus on helping teams overcome the painpoints of developing both their software products and adapting to the challenges of growing software company to keep them lean and agile. I lean into my over a decade of working with startups, Fortune 500 companies, and mainstream public cloud companies to share expertise, ideas, and implement the right solution for each and every client.
